Gospelink - History

Gospelink is a ministry that was started and is sustained by the living God! In the early months of 1998, God called Lewis Nelms to fall on his knees and pray for His leading in his life. Out of that time of prayer came the vision for Gospelink. God blessed the faith of both Lewis and Leah Nelms and in April of that same year Gospelink was born.

The vision was to link individuals, families, churches, christian schools, and other groups from the U.S.A. with national church planting preachers from some of the poorest nations in the continent of Africa. The first preachers that were sponsored were from Zambia, Zimbabwe and Malawi, Africa. At the end

of 1998, thirty six national preachers were being supported and over 16,000 people had come to Christ! These new Christians had been encouraged to form churches and over 60

new churches were started. Gospelink was off and running to a very exciting future!

In the year 2000, Gospelink expanded their missionary work into the countries of Tanzania and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. They also brought on additional staff in the USA that allowed for this geographical growth. By the end of that year the ministry was sponsoring over 150 national preachers and had seen over 130,000 people converted to Christianity in five different African nations.

The year 2002 was a year of many transitions for Gospelink. The U.S.A. headquarters moved from Georgia to Florida. Several new families joined the Gospelink team at the new Florida headquarters. We also expanded the geographical work of the ministry by helping to support preachers in

Mozambique, the poorest nation in the world. Now, over 380 preachers were being helped and nearly half a million people came to Christ!

With the growing U.S.A. staff, came the opportunity to expand the work of Gospelink into a new part of the world. In 2003, Gospelink began to help national church planting preachers in both Russia and Ukraine. This was a whole new mission field for the ministry. It was exciting to see the difference that the sponsorship funds and prayers made in the lives of these preachers who were so poor, but so dedicated to the fulfillment of the great commission.

In the final months of 2005, after completing seven years of fruitful ministry in Africa and two years in Eastern Europe, Gospelink began supporting preachers in India. This nation of one billion people is in great need of the gospel and this ministry is excited to be working there.

God’s blessings have been poured out on Gospelink! We are now working on three continents and in nine nations. Over 730 preachers are being assisted. Since 1998 over 2.5 million people have turned to Jesus for their personal salvation and over 8,000 new churches have been started!

What is really exciting is that we feel like this ministry is just getting started. But, we realize that we must remain dependent on the power of God and His leading for the future. This is why each day at the Gospelink USA office the
