What does the Bible say about Orphans?

In both the Old Testament and the New Testament, God is a vigorous defender of the helpless. Children have a special place in the heart of God. Here are a few verses that give us a glimpse into the heart of God:

Deuteronomy 24:19 When you are harvesting in your field and you overlook a sheaf, do not go back to get it. Leave it for the alien, the fatherless, and the widow, so that the LORD your God may bless you in all the work of your hands.

Job 29:12 ...I delivered the poor that cried, and the fatherless, and him that had none to help him.

Psalms 68:5 A father of the fatherless, and a judge of the widows, is God in his holy habitation.

Psalms 82:3 Defend the poor and fatherless: do justice to the afflicted and needy.

Isaiah 1:17 Learn to do well; seek judgment, relieve the oppressed, defend the fatherless, plead for the widow.

Luke 18:16 But Jesus called them to Him and said, “Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of God.
