Our Story

In April of 1998, the Lord guided Lewis and Leah Nelms to start Gospelink. Through the generous donation of a Christian businessman, a rent-free facility was provided in Wrens, GA, which would serve as the first office.
The vision: to link sponsoring individuals, families, churches, and groups with church-planting preachers in other nations. The first preachers who were sponsored were from the African nations of Zambia, Zimbabwe, and Malawi. At the end of 1998, thirty-six national preachers were being provided with monthly assistance and, through their labors and the blessing of the Lord, over 16,000 people had accepted Christ as their Savior! These new Christians had formed over 60 churches.
In the year 2000, Gospelink expanded their mission work into the countries of Tanzania and the Democratic Republic of Congo. They also brought on additional staff in the USA that allowed for this geographical growth. By the end of that year, the ministry was sponsoring over 150 national preachers and had seen over 130,000 people come to Christ in these African nations.
The year 2002 was a year of many transitions for Gospelink. The USA headquarters moved from Georgia to Florida. Several new families joined the Gospelink team at the new Florida headquarters. Gospelink also expanded its geographical work to support preachers in Mozambique. Over 380 preachers were being assisted and nearly half a million people received Christ as their Savior!
With the growing USA staff came the opportunity to expand the work of Gospelink into another part of the world. In 2003, Gospelink began helping national preachers in Russia and Ukraine. It was exciting to see the difference that the sponsorship funds and prayers made in the lives of these preachers who were so poor, but so dedicated to the fulfillment of the Great Commission.
In the final months of 2005, after completing seven years of ministry in Africa and two years in Eastern Europe, Gospelink began assisting preachers in India. That same year, construction began on the International Bible College in Kazemba, Zambia. Fully functional, this educational facility will have the capacity to train 600 students annually.
By 2007, Gospelink had begun assisting preachers in Ethiopia and Vietnam. In addition, construction had begun on the Malawi Agricultural Training Center. This facility on Lake Malawi will provide agricultural and theological training, as well as providing resources for hunger relief and other worthy projects.
In 2009, Gospelink relocated its office to Lynchburg, Virginia where it is strategically located for future growth.
During these years, God has poured out His blessings on Gospelink! The mission is now working on three continents in twelve nations. Nearly 1,200 national preachers are being assisted each month. Since 1998, these national preachers have evangelized over 150,000 areas; they have led over 5 million people to a profession of faith in Jesus Christ; and, they have started over 20,000 new churches.
What is really exciting is that we feel like Gospelink is just getting started. With God’s power, leading, and blessing, so much more can be accomplished. Our prayer is that the name of the Lord will be exalted among the nations and that multitudes will place their faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.
