In a nation where believers are intensely persecuted on a daily basis, stories like this one really put things in perspective. Read the testimony of this preacher and be encouraged! Manohar is on the front lines of spiritual battle day-in and day-out, serving faithfully; making the name of Jesus famous and loved in the hearts of the people of India.
Manohar comes from a long line of Hindus, but by God’s grace, was raised by godly parents who were strongly rooted in their Christian faith. Manohar worked hard to obtain his bachelors in science and also pursued and obtained a degree in business. Like many men in his culture (and ours), he battled an addictive habit of drinking and smoking. He claims to have made several bad decisions which, in his words, “were leading me in the path of destruction.”
Manohar’s business endeavor flopped and soon ran into debt. This misfortune was the beginning of a spiral downward in his life. He became desperate and began to drink all the more. “Even in my hopeless condition, I didn’t seek God. I followed the ways of the evil one and thought of committing suicide,” he says. Manohar’s mother prayed for him daily, even in tears. Eventually, she invited him to visit a pastor, which he agreed to do. He was reaching the end of his rope and wanted to give God a chance as a last resort. The pastor patiently listened to Manohar as he poured out his heart and told him of all his problems. Manohar was prayed over and was shown the TRUTH: that true life comes only in Jesus Christ; He is the only way. He often visited the pastor and sat under his teaching from the Word of God and as he listened, the Holy Spirit began to convict. Manohar came to the place of repentance, confessing his sins before God and accepting Jesus Christ as his savior. Soon after, he was baptized.
Manohar tells us that at that moment, the unbearable burden of his sin rolled away. The shackles of his addictions were broken. The enemy no longer had any hold on his life and he was free. Free from bondage; free to treat others kindly; free to love; free to pursue God and experience life that is TRULY life.
After Manohar experienced salvation, he quickly began to see the world as Jesus did and had a great burden for those who were living in the bondage of sin. He began to evangelize. He even took a number of Bible courses, which equipped him to teach others effectively. As he did this, chasing after God’s will, he sensed the Lord calling him into full-time ministry.
Currently, Manohar is actively involved in ministry with his wife, Shaly, and his son, Dholin. He has helped to plant two churches and has seen over 200 people come to the same realization that he did: that Jesus is the only way to true life and full joy.
